I am a NY Yankees fan, but I can feel for those who are fans of a franchise that has suffered for a long time. The Pittsburgh Pirates used to be a pretty good team and when Jim Leyland was their manager they came just short of going to the World Series back in 1992 when they lost to the Atlanta Braves.

Since this time period the Pirates luck has gone down hill as they have not had a winning season since 1992. In the mean time the last time the NY Yankees had a losing season was 1992 so it seems like the fortune of these two teams roles reversed during this time period.

To this day the Yankees are still a power house and always winning because of their huge salary cap so they have the ability to go out and buy the best players.

In the meantime the Pirates don't spend a lot of money so they have to look into their farm system to get good cheap players. AJ Burnett has done a great job and the whole pitching staff in general has kept this team in the playoff race in the National League. Andrew McCutchen has been a good hitter for the Buck O's.

As of Sunday August 19th the Pirates have a record of 66 wins, and 54 loses. They are 12 games above .500 and currently hold a position in the National League wild card if the season ended today. The Pirates only need 16 more wins this season to clinch a winning season which would be 82 wins.

Good luck to them and hopefully this starving franchise finally gets something going.

Argh!

its pretty odd to see both the Pirates and Nationals not be terrible this year but its cool to see these struggling teams finally have a breakthrough.
